I got a demonstration of a new Polycom VSX 7000...Impressive video and audio
quality ! And pricey too: street price is already below 4000 $ for a complete IP
system (see PC Magazine Price Grabber). But what really makes me angry is the
fact that to be able to put a few ISDN lines together, you need to put anoter
1500 $ on the purchase of a so called "Quadbri".

Well, I rebel against this Quadbri-tax ! This Quadbry is a simple ISDN line
connector and I refuse to believe that it can cost so much to justify as much as
35% of the street priced VSX 7000 basic device !

I therefore ask everybody to suggest if there is a way to connect up to 2 or 4
ISDN lines to the VSX 7000 without paying this tax.

Any ideas ?

Thank you very much

Nope.

There is no alternative, other than an expenxive H.323 to H.320 gateway. And
it is not expensive. Compare the costs against other Polycom products, or
the difference between a Tandberg 880 IP only device and a 384K ISDN device.

You may be able to pick up a Quadbri used. That could help with the
price. Check out http://www.Vuports.com. Depending upon your setup
you could also look for a 4 port RADvision or Cisco h./323 to h.320
gateway. These should also be pretty cheap given their age. Finally if you
need to share the BRI's among several units try wiring the ISDN lines to
a patch field then sharing the Quadbri. That may lower your cost.

As far as I can see all 880's include ISDN (or V.35).

I take it all back - there is one on the Tandberg web site. 880 IP only ...
It just doesn't appear on my price list.

The Tandberg 880 IP is just software limited to not allow for ISDN. Its the
same product for a lower price since some of the functionality is reduced.

Evidently it is not available in some areas.
