What is the this that you are referring to?

"Everyone"?

I have seen one or two posts from people with sharing related problems in
the last few weeks - so I am not sure what you are referring to?
Can you elaborate on exactly what your problem is, what you have looked at
to resolve the problem? |

I think I am in the same boat here. I just installed SP2 on my XP
machine and netmeeting no longer displays video. I knew this was a
known issue but I thought there was a workaround by now. Brian, you
seem to be the expert in this issue as many of the grouplist posts are
from you... I have followed your advise on QoS and have turned them
off on both my LAN and "dialup" DSL connections to no avail.
The simple question: Is there a way to get NM to work in XP SP2????
Many thanks |

Are you saying it no longer recognizes your camera and displays local
video, no longer displays incoming video? What about incoming audio?

There are some issues with outgoing audio/video ( QoS related) that are
exacerbated by SP2 it themes but I am not sure what "known" issue you are
referring to.

The QoS "fix" is to deal with problems in outgoing audio/video. A different
problem from what you are seeing apparently.
Are you running a local software firewall (or behind a router of some kind)
-- those are things that can prevent you from receiving audio/video. Other
lack of reception problems can be attributed to problems at the sending end
(QoS issues being the most common but local firewalls can also be a problem
for sending audio/video)

Yes for most people NM works on XP SP2 |

I'm also having a problem with netmeeting not sharing. I can connect to my sisters PC (XP Home) from mine (XP Pro, SP2) and both ends show were are in a call, with our names listed, but neither of us can share anything. All items are grayed out.
I've tried disabling/bypassing firewalls and routers with the same results.
I think the problem is on her end since she just got a new PC and I was able to connect to the old one with no problems.
I have Netmeeting 3.01. Not sure what version she has or if she's on SP2. I'll check with her on that.
Thanks!!

I checked with her and she has XP Home SP2 and version 3.01 of Netmeeting.
Any other ideas??
Thanks!

Fixed my problem |
|
|
I was able to get sharing to work from XP Pro to XP Home.
I think what fixed it was doing a windows update. I went to Custom and saw several non-critical Software, Optional updates available. One of them was called Windows Media Connect, along 2 XP and 1 Outlook update. I installed them and had my sister do the same. She had 5 items listed and installed them all, not sure what the others were.
Anyway we tried to connect again and Sharing worked. I notice too that the initial "call" connected faster. Before the "waiting for response" message stayed up for a minute or so, and then went away. There was no error message but it seemed like it was timing out since it took so long, even though we both show that we were "in a call"
Hope this helps someone.
