Changing settings with SNMP |
|
|
Please provide your wisdom....
I have a Bay ASN router running version 13.2. I am trying to modify
settings using SNMP from a remote unix machine. I am connecting to
router with correct read and read/write community names. The
agentStatus keeps initializing as read-only. I am able to set this
value to read-write using the snmp set command, but currentAgentStatus
does not change to read-write, so access is still read-only. When I
try to change other values, such as, TelnetDisable, I get "agent not
writable". I am very confused as to why I can't get write access.
Note: I am using the snmx program from the unix machine.
TIA

Two things are possible that I can think of.
The community you are using to access is set to read only ?
Or, The SNMP varible is read-only and can not write to it.
Some SNMP varibles only provide a value but can not be set via SNMP, only
thorugh TI or GUI (Site mangler)

I believe by default, you need to add your unix station's IP address to
the list of SNMP Managers.
If you're not listed there, even having using the read-write community
will not allow write access.

Thanks for the replies.
First for MC - Yes, the community I'm using is definetely read-write
however, I will need to check the snmp variable for it's permissions.
Next for User - I have 0.0.0.0 set as the manager for the read-write community.
That should cover all IP addresses correct? or should I put a specific
IP for the workstation?
Thanks
