RT-328 problem |
|
|
OK, I know this is an old product. But maybe someone can give me a
hint.
I have a working RT-328. I keep an ISDN line as a backup for the
occasional times when my DSL line isn't functioning. Works fine for
this (if slow compared to the DSL)
I just got a new phone (RCA) and the RT-328 doesn't ring the phone. It
does ring the old phone. I can dial out through the RT-328 if I pick
up the new phone, and if I know that the phone should be ringing I
can pick up the incoming call.
I seem to remember there are some issues with the voltage put out by
the RT-328 interacting with the phone.
Apparently the RT-328 is old enough that Netgear no longer supports
it. There is no mention of this product on their web page.
Anyone know any workarounds for this problem??? I have firmware 1.50
installed.
Thanks,
Mark

Find an external ringer that does work. RadiosHack sells or did sell
such. Viking sold a "ring booster" but that's overkill.

Mark,
Have you set the switches within the console for which line rings for voice
calls? With the Zxyel, Ah hem, Netgear ISDN routers, they default to allow
voice calls to ring thru pots port one of the router, but if your caller is
calling on Pots 2, you have to set the router up for that. If you have the
First Gear software, uninstall it, format the disk as it's good for NOTHING.
When configuring this unit, use telnet, it's easier, and more robust then
that pesky First Gear S.W.
If you need more help, let me know. Im at anthony (at) styou (place dot

You might want to look at buying an old motorola 'bitsurfer pro' on ebay
for $5 or so - one nice thing about that unit is it internally supports a
lot of POTS features, like three-way calling, caller-id (number only),
call waiting, call parking/hold...
Some of these fetures require the additional call offering (ACO) feature
on your line. You might already have this, anyway.
- and through the data port you can retrieve a list of the last numbers that
called you, you can set a rejection based on caller-id that will cause callers
to just hear ringing but silence on your end, and so forth.
Many of the other ISDN routers and such don't support the phone ports
this fully.
I originally had a bitsurfer - and while I later used a router for data,
and today for backup only, I otherwise connect the bitsurfer to get the
voice features.
