We need to set up a Net Meeting server that will available for our
accounting software support tech's to use when we have issues without anyone
giving up their computer for a couple of hours each time. My supervisor
says this needs to be done outside the firewall on our isapi server which I
am having a hard time understanding what he means. I'm not new to Net
Meeting, but I don't see the difference in setting up a computer on our
network that is used strictly for this purpose. Sort of a dummy system,
which is only used for this. Can someone tell me how this is done? Is
there a difference in a net meeting server vs a stand alone unit on our
network? How do you set up a "Server" for this purpose? Thanks in advance!

An "isapi" server is a web server, probably he means IIS (internet
information system server). You can run a form of server called an ILS
(internet locator server) on a machine running the web server, and in
fact the ILS components require IIS to run.

A locator server though is more like a 'phone directory' in that it
allows you to look-up a member of staff, and place a call to them
using netmeeting.

It would usually need to be outside the firewall to successfully start
a call sequence because the call-startup is quite techincally
complicated and most firewalls don't know anything about netmeeting.

Other types of 'netmeeting servers' exist, called MCUs or multiparty
conference units. These are independent of IIS, and allow you to place
calls to several people at one time, for a conference. They are
generally quite expensive, though you can get open-source versions for
nowt eg www.openh323.org list an MCU.

Finally you can also operate a 'gatekeeper' which is a form of routing
for netmeeting calls. You might want to read up on this at DialupAudio
site : http://www.dialupaudio.com/h323primer.html. Substitute the term
'H323' for netmeeting throughout and you're more or less there. Also
read http://www.dialupaudio.com/dualgatekeeper.html for a product to
handle this aspect of calls. 10 clients comes in at about $130USD

Actually, you've not defined what you want to do with this 'server' so
that would be a good first step ;-)

What is an isapi server?

Maybe you should as him.

What is this "server" supposed to do? NetMeeting can use two types of
servers - an ILS server -- used as method for initiating calls. It requires
a Win2000 server ( which includes an ILS server). NetMeeting can also
participate in multiparty audio/video calls using an MCU server.

I don't understand the problem or the proposed solution - so I think you
need to do a little more information gathering.
