Creative NX Ultra Webcam |
|
|
My query may be Creative hardware-specific, or maybe not.
I've installed the camera, and registered and got my
NetMeeting passport, and have established 2-way
on-line contact with a remote station similarly
equipped. We both use IP addresses.
While all set up, waiting for incoming call, with
a local and remote window both showing local video,
after some time, maybe 15 minutes, the light on the camera
goes out, the video freezes, and I have no way to restart
the whole conferencing process other than reboot the PC.
All advice gratefully welcome..... |

Until the video freezing all seems like it is normal and expected activity.
It sounds like a hardware or camera driver specific problem. Have you
downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Creative support site?

Thanks, Brian. Actually, it is new gear. I used the Install CD |
and it froze at 5%. After a dozen go-arounds with Creative, they
had me download new drivers, which I installed, and then
avoided the "installation" phase of their CD. So, yes, I have
their latest drivers. And some video connection using NetMeeting.
You feel that the camera light going out after a period of
inactivity is normal? With no way to reactivate it other
than reboot? I'd have thought it was all part of the same problem. |

I don't know about the camera "light" going out being normal - I am not
sure what it is supposed to indicate -- but the video freezing is a problem
(if the two things happen at the same time I would guess like you that they
are part of the same problem).
Is there any way you can return the camera? Maybe the hardware is faulty.

It's been "ON" for almost an hour, running in background while I |
fend off other dragons. So I need more evidence, more facts.
Thanks for the help, I'll get back to you. I'm pretty sure it
isn't hardware.
