We 've got a SMC 7004ABR EU V.2 Barricade 4-port Broadband Router with
Built-in Print Server, That is up and running for a local network and
is also connected (WAN) to the ISP.
Now we are trying to connect the HP Deskjet 815C printer to the
router, following the manual in the router manual. I've connected the
printer to the router and in the advanced setup window of the router i
can see "status printer: OK". Trying to install the Printer port
monitor on a Windows XP machine i don't get an error, but it doesn't
install anything either.

Is there anyone who successfully installed a printer on a similar SMC
router without the printer port monitor software? Which software
should i use or configuration should i use.

Can anyone direct me to a page where i can download a "recent" version
of the SMC printer port monitor software.

Thanks in advance,

Lou B.

Lou,

I don't think that you need the printer port monitor software. I was
never able to successfully install it either (I think that the either the
zip file is corrupted or installation routine is faulty. I will e-mail you
the PDF installation instructions that I just received this week from SMC
tech support people. Beware, however, that I have a HP Deskjet 855C
printer and I cannot get it to print via the Barricade (I have a 7008ABR)
using WinXP, but it does work under W2K. I think that the XP driver is
messed up as far as LPR printing is concerned, but there doesn't seem to
be a way of contacting HP to complain about it.

Don't know if "drivers are drivers", but you might try the software from

netgear. I have a netgear router with a parallel printer port, fr114p,
& netgear's software works on my winxp, desktop & laptop; the software
"shouldn't" be that router dependent as it is just using tcp networking.

Lew,

The software is not available on their website, only the firmware
upgrades, and manuals. Would you zip up that software and email it to me?
