If you have some knowledge of C, you might get something like the
slmodemd (http://www.smlink.com/main/item.php?item_id=84&main_id=32) and
the linux alsa (http://www.alsa-project.org/) sound drivers to do it. As
far as I can tell, slmodemd has the DSP engine and V.whatever encoding stuff
built into it.
As for a cable, I have no idea. You may have to make it yourself or get a
custom-cable company to make it for you.
