I am looking for camera/microphone combination suggestions for netmeeting on
my PC. I have had a logitech camera in the past but the video is starting
to fade and I think the camera is going bad. So I am looking for a new one.
I don't like the camera/microphone all in one approach as I get a lot of
loop back noise on the audio. I think if I use a seperate microphone and a
seperate camera I will get better results (less loop back). A friend has
his set up this way and it seems to be less a problem than mine. Anyway, I
was wondering if anyone had recommendations on the best cameras and
microphones to be used with netmeeting. Grandpa has to see his grandkids
every now and then.

The best way to avoid echo is for all parties to use headsets. Any open
mic/speaker setup will likely produce echo.

The Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 seems to be a good camera from reports -- I
haven't seen or used one though:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006HMPK/102-9845687-6890551

A bit pricey though.

Just about any mid priced headset would do the job of mic/headphones.

The problem I have with headsets is that there is more than one person at
each location, so I need to use and open mike. If I cut grandma out of the
conversation I may not live to see my next grandchild.

Any recommendations on a good open mike with noise cancelation??

Your feedback problem can be easily corrected. It's just a matter of muting a
playback control.

Double click on the speaker icon in your Systray (Task Bar - lower right) to
access the Volume control. Verify that the Microphone control is visible and
then disable it (check Mute). This microphone setting, when enabled, controls
the direct output (Playback) to the speakers and causes "feedback" unless you
point the speakers away from the microphone.

Click on Options > Properties, and you'll see that you're looking at the
Playback controls, by default.

Select Recording and you'll see another microphone control. This is the proper
one to adjust while using NetMeeting, if it's necessary.

If you don't have the speaker icon visible on the Systray, click Start >
Programs > Accessories > Entertainment, and then click the appropriate icon.

For information about using Volume Control, click the Help menu in Volume
Control.
