I have 2 PCs (laptop and desktop) and an Ezonics Video Chat
Kit. Laptop OS is XP Home, desktop is XP Pro. The kit
runs through NetMeeting.

On my laptop, when I plug in the camera and start NM it
recognizes the camera right away and video is on screen.
On the desktop, NM doesn't recoginze the camera and all
video settings are greyed out. On the desktop, other video
programs (such as MS Movie Maker) recognize the camera.

The kit comes with 2 cameras and both react the same.

Any ideas? Please help!

Is it possible the laptop has an extra driver of some kind installed?
Usually this type of situation (where some programs can use the camera but
NetMeeting cannot) is due to the fact that NetMeeting uses an old (VFW)
capture interface and newer programs use an WDM capture interface. Some
cameras/capture devices do not provide the VFW interface causing NM
problems.

Usually this means that NM cannot use the camera regardless of
platform/computer without extra assistance(there is a third party piece of
software that does the wdm to vfw conversion). It does not really sound
like this is the problem in your case but I can't think of anything else
that could cause your symptoms.

Brian,

Thanks for getting back to me.

What would be the difference between the verson of NM on my
laptop (that works with the camera) to the version of NM on
my desktop that does not?

Do you think a different brand of camera will work?

JA

The only difference could be if one was SP2 and the other not (at least the
version number would be different).

Don't know -- it depends on the cause of the problem but I think not.

Is it possible the desktop has the video in NetMeeting disabled by
policy(this could happen if this was a corporately configured machine)?

Brian,

Both machines have SP2.

Desktop is in my home and as far as I know
video in NetMeeting wasn't disabled by policy.

How would I check and change this?
