There are a number of projects on sourceforge which do precisely that,
including an IPF workalike.

Such a thing doesn't make any sense at all, as long as the OS is closed
soeurce. You start building a house at the basement, not at the roof.

Firefox does ... at least when compared to IE. |

Get real, it is the problem of Microsoft that they made a browser (a http
client) part of the OS and so it no big deal for firefox (another http
client) that it never wanted to be more than a browser.

That's irrelevant to your claim that Firefox "doesn't claim to secure a
system." It does.
From their page: "Built with your security in mind, Firefox keeps your
computer safe from malicious spyware by not loading harmful ActiveX
controls. A comprehensive set of privacy tools keep your online activity
your business." |

That's brainless sales droid speak.
Firefox is only *less* of a risk than *IE*, but still a risk. A jar of
peanut butter is safer than either (it doesn't load harmful ActiveX controls
either, nor does it parse potentially harmful code like Firefox can). It
still doesn't protect your computer.
