| Get real, it is the problem of Microsoft that they made a browser (a http
| client) part of the OS and so it no big deal for firefox (another http
| client) that it never wanted to be more than a browser.
That's irrelevant to your claim that Firefox "doesn't claim to secure a
system." It does.
From their page: "Built with your security in mind, Firefox keeps your
computer safe from malicious spyware by not loading harmful ActiveX
controls. A comprehensive set of privacy tools keep your online activity
your business."

I'm not sure you understand the OP's point, that an open source network
product provides a skilled cracker to study the code for weaknesses to
exploit. That's how Robert Morris designed the very first network virus, btw,
by exploting a bug in the public domain sendmail code that happened to be
prevalent on the net at the time. I hate to think of the damage wrought if
Mozilla/Firefox were attacked the same way.
Regardless, it is wise to maintain a healthy skepticism in most things,
usually when reading marketing copy, and always when considering the reports
software developers make regarding the stability of their own code.
