How to Sniff my Linksys Router Traffic |
|
|
I want to sniff my Linksys Router Traffic to detect information that the
clients on my LAN are passing.
I tried several freeware and trial s/w tools with no success. None seem to
be able to detect information passing through the linsys router/gateway,
only through network adapters on LAN clients.
I do not use a proxy for web traffic, so the above will be of no use.
Can you recommend a freeware or trial s/w to perform a basic sniff of my
LAN? |

That's because the Linksys router/gateway is also a 4-port switch -
traffic from other systems isn't sent on your wire, so you can't sniff it.

That is very true.
The only way to "fix" this is to either:
A) buy a hub and connect everyone to that, then the sniffer will work,
or,
b) buy a managed switch, and do as in A. Then you can turn on/off port
monitoring so you can sniff out traffic to/from only specified ports and
only when needed...

I'm sorry that I forgot to mention that I'm using the WRT54G wireless router
with 4 port switch. The clients on the LAN communicate wireless with the
router gateway.
Is there a way to sniff this wireless traffic? What product would you
recommend?
