I have dumped NIS 2005 because my machine stops working after a couple of
days and requires a reboot. I downloaded Sygate with the intention of
configuring it with no programs specifically allowed to do things but only
a small set of ports open to the world. I did this because I don't trust
some of the Micro$oft applications to be open to all.

However, the Advanced Rules / Ports and Protocols form doesn't allow me to
specify particular ports. Is this a feature in the "Pro" version only?

Yes, it does. Did you specify a protocol on that form?

Sure it does, but you have to first select a protocol. When you do that, the
inbound and outbound ports dialogs will appear.

Thanks for the advice. I got Sygate running and added McAfee Spam Killer
(which seems a little ineffective) and my machine is now usable again.
