I have 3xPC's connected to 2mb Broadband via Netgear Router. All the PC's
have Zonealarm installed. I never see any intrusions on any of the PC's.

Is this normal and is this all because of the Router? If so what is the
point of a Software firewall?

Thanks

Clive

Routers will only block incoming traffic. You will need something to block
unwanted outgoing traffic (worms, viruses, trojans etc).

Unless he's smart enough not to install any of those in the first place.

If he's asking the question he's not smart enough (sorry to the OP), I
know it sounded hard, but it's true.

I'm more worried about the majority who *don't* ask any questions.

LOL, it's too late for them, that's why they invented Duct Tape.

You see that everyone? We confused him with our long discussion (or he
didn't bother reading the threads) Are you a real person there Clive?

I would say in your situation Clive, no you don't.

Why do you need something like that? Use a good AV program to detect these
types of software and rely on that instead.

Even the best AV progs can't detect all nasties. Relying on AV alone is not

the best advise to give the OP.

Found th replies interesting. I use KAV Pro with Zonealarm.

One of the comments was that my router will not stop outgoing worms, etc. If
my AV software doesn't catch all those (I believe Kaspersky is one of the
best at detecting malware, etc), then will Zonealarm catch those 'missed'
OUTGOING nasties?

Thanks for all the replies guys

ZA will prompt you that a particular .exe, .com, .dll requests access to the

internet to communicate with an IP address. Any prompt should be looked at
closely. You have the option to allow the connection (if it is a legitimate
app) or deny access.

Haven't personally used any other s/w firewalls, but they should operate in
the same manner
