Since installing recently my Netgear DG834G Router (firmware version
1.05.00 - directly, not wireless connected), I have had problems in browsing
eBay.

My system in a Windows 2000 with SP4, using both Firefox 1.0 and IE6 with
SP1, and I have used both Kerio 4 and Sygate software firewalls (separately,
not at the same time).

If I disable the software firewalls, the eBay problem disappears.

I have not seen the same problem with other sites.

Anyone any ideas?

I had this problem and it wasn't the firewalls. Go to

http://www.iolo.com/downloads.cfm download their Sytem Mechanic and try
the internet speed optimisation - worked for me.

Nigel,

Thanks for the suggestion. I ran the "Increase Network Speed - Optimization
Wizard" - but this did not improve things.

I then went into the "Advanced Optimization Options" and played around with
the MTU settings, trying to increase the MTU for the Ethernet adapter to
1492 which aligns with my DSL link (I had read when researching that the
problem could be related to mismatched MTU sizes) and switched off
(deselected) "Enable automatic MTU selection". On restarting the system the
problem appears to have disappeared - although it is indicating an MTU of
576.

Net is, I think it is 'fixed' but I am not precisely clear how or what,
although MTU sizes appears to be something to do with it.

Again, thanks
Paul R

Hi Paul,

I'm glad that it's up and running again.I think you're right about MTU.
When I had the problem I found a thread in a web forum that mentioned
this (unfortunately I've lost the address) but in my case I never had to
go that far because the straighforward optimisation worked.
Out of interest whilst I appear to have auto MTU selected I see 576 in a
greyed-out box above so perhaps that's a red herring.
Regards,
Nigel
