Disable Security Policy in SecureClient R56 |
|
|
Hi,
I've intsalled the SecureClient R56 clinet on my XP desktop for my wife
connecting back to her company. However, I used to have my apache
server running on that PC sharing my photos and news with my frineds.
After the SecureClient is installed, the incoming port 80 is blocked.
Whenever the machine is rebooted, I have to manually go the
SecureClient menu to "Disable Security Policy" to allow the incoming
access of my apache server.
Is there any way to turn off the security policy automatically? Or the
better is to edit the security policy to allow incoming port 80
traffic. Could someone let me know how can I change the default policy
setting?
many thanks,

Does your wife's company policy require SecureClient be installed?
If not, one option is to uninstall, then reinstall and select the VPN
client component (SecuRemote) but not the desktop firewall component
(SecureClient). |

Yes, her company installation disk does install both at the same time.
Not sure if I can only install the SecureClient or not. If it is
required, is there any way to modify the policy or change disable the
security policy when it is started? |

If the installation routine does not allow you to select SecuRemote
and/or SecureClient via checkboxes, then your wife's company has
supplied a customized configuration which enforces the company's
security policy.
While it may be technically possible to alter or disable the desktop
policy after installation, doing so would likely result in the company's
VPN server refusing to authorize connections from your system, for good
reason - if someone were to compromise your web server, they could then
attack the company's internal systems via the VPN connection. |

You could use ssperate logins for both you and your wife, disabling
secureclient in your profile.
When your wife is connected to the company net though you will not be
able to serve up webpages if the policy is enforced via a policyserver
(as seems to be the case)
