Hi,
I'm looking into getting a Creative Modem Blaster DI-5631 (need its
voice capabilities).

Looking through past postings, there are repeated references to a
problem with this modem's XP drivers.

In march 2003 Creative released a new driver for the modem, supposedly
addressing the XP issues. There are hardly any complaints any longer
after that date. I can't tell though whether this is because Creative
had all problems fixed, or because people stopped bothering about this
product by then.

So I'm turning to the group to ask any DI5631 owners if they could
confirm that all driver problems have been resolved with that driver's
release.
Do *all* features now work? I need in particular these features and
need them to be very reliable:
- Caller Id
- Voice (answering machine)
- Speakerphone

(I will probably not be using the data part of it at all...)

Just about had enough of buying hardware that turns out to be partly
functional (or worse), killing hours getting it to work, and too often
in vain.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've always had good luck with this modem. Currently have one install in one
of my XP Home machines. Have also installed them for others. The modem works
great for me and I've not heard any complaints from anyone for whom I've
installed one. Recently installed one in a new build for my Sister. It's
working fine in XP Home.

Well then, it does look like the latest driver solved all or most of
the issues.
Thanks for the info.

Ben,

What software are you planning to use?

'Call Station' by Impulse Technology.
I tried over a dozen similar programs, and despite some (inveitable)
shortcomings, I'd recommend trying CS out to anyone considering
software for their voice modem.
Great features, *very* reliable.

Thanks, maybe I'll give it a look. Been using Smith Micro's Hotfax Message
Center for years. I'm happy with it but always willing to try something new.
