questions about voip |

Does anyone know about this issue with small countries wanting to tax VoIP
because the infrastructure costs are greater than existing phone systems?
Are Vonage, CallAdvantage and Lingo the biggest VoIP companies?
Does anyone know how Skype works -- why is it free?

It's free because (A) the bandwidth comes from the people who are
participating in the conversation, and (B) the software comes from people
who are trying to upsell you to paying for PSTN termination.

What is PSTN termination -- do you mean SkypeOut, where you can place a call
to regular phones?

Correct.
Skype works more like peer to peer file exchange, therefore not compatible
with the common VoIP standards.
