I'll try to make this as brief as possible:

Last Sunday I bought the Linksys WRK54G router with the wireless adapter. I got home, followed the instructions on the CD for installation, and ran into a slight problem. This was solved with a call to my internet provider, who walked me through the process of bridging my DSL modem. It wasn't long before I realized that my connection speeds were somewhat slower. This PC is wired to the router, so it has nothing to do with being wireless. Two days later I decided that I had a defective router and swapped it at the store. After the installation, I had the same problem. My download speeds went from 150Kbps to 20Kbps (sometimes 10Kbps!). After hours and hours of talking to technicians over the phone with both Linksys and my internet provider, everyone has decided to just throw their hands up and tell me that they have no idea what's going on.

Here are the facts:
Download speeds are way down.
Online bandwidth test on ISP site says speeds are normal.
Other online bandwidth tests show positive and negative results.
When downloading a file, speeds fluctuate, usually slowly decling with occasional spikes.
I have tried different cables as well as modems with no effect.
I have tried powering down PC, modem, and router, then powering up modem, router, and PC (in that order).
Disabled wireless broadcast to make sure that bandwidth wasn't being "borrowed" by neighbors, only to find the same slow results.
Changed MTU, only making the connection slower.

I've done a lot more, but I don't have time to type all of it here. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have no problem accessing the internet, but my speeds fluctuate from 290Kbps, up to 980Kbps seconds later. I really don't think it's a defective router, since the one I brought back was doing the same identical thing. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
