My main computer is a Compaq, 1 gig processor Pent III, 384 MB RAM. About 5 yrs old. Just got Qwest DSL and was told I should have 7 Mbps speed. Didn't seem right so downloaded www.speakeasy.net/speedtest and found it was only 380 Kbs down/680 Kbs up. Spoke with Qwest and they said I should be getting 6+ Mbps from their test. They had me try another outlet so I used my laptop. It tested at 6 Mbps. Now I thot it was my jack by my desktop. Laptop tested the same on that outlet. Next, switched ethernet from laptop to desktop and back down to 380 Kbps down. Switched to the USB port and speed jumped to 750 Kbps but still not what the laptop is getting.

With all this, I'm guessing I've narrowed it to the desktop hardware issue or some conflict. Any guesses from anyone?

Thanx

SOunds like your Ethernet Card in your PC. Try changing it out for a higher quality one.
