"Fun" with Netmeeting |
|
|
Hello all,
I am (surprise, surprise) having connection issues with Netmeeting. We
do not allow any incoming calls, but we do call out to one of our
vendors. The program has not been used for the last few months, but
has suddenly stopped working. There has been no equipment change or
adjustments made to the firewall, dsl modem, etc. The only thing that
has changed since it worked had been a move from a Dynamic IP to a
Static IP on our DSL. DSL is provided by Sprint. I don't see how this
could affect it, but I'm not sure what the problem is. I can use
Netmeeting to connect between computers inside the LAN, but not over
the internet. Is there anything i should look for? I'm not even sure
where to start. All we want to do is make calls and not receive them.
Thank you for your time and assistance,
-Tim |

"Stopped working" -- could you provide a more precise account of what isn't
working, what you are trying to do and have done in the past.

How are you attempting to make calls?
Normally unless you or the program are being specifically blocked at the
firewall you should be able to make a data only call to any public IP on
the internet ( assuming of course there is not something at the to be
called end blocking the call). Placing of audio/video calls requires the
firewall to accommodate ( in soho routers use of the dmz feature is the
usual way).
If your provider is NATing your "Static IP" farther upstream though all
bets are off.
The first thing I would check since you indicate a change there is that
your firewall wan IP is not a NAT'ed IP.
