Running Sygate firewall on Win98. Can someone recommend a
Kerio v4.++ (something) as a replacement?

You don't need a "Personal Firewall" for Windows 98. Just unbind any
network services from your external interface and that's it.

Right-Click on the external network interface, properties, then remove
everything beside the Internet protocol / TCP/IP.

I would suggest to take a look on protoport:
http://protoport.com
Sometimes it feels like Kerio, but it is more powerful.
BTW, Sygate and Kerio has stopped support of their firewall products.
