PCanywhere/Microsoft updates causing problems! |
|
|
Withe problems I am having making a connection using PCAnywhere it has
been suggested that a recent update (Windows XP) may have some how
installed a Firewal or some such filtering device which compromises
PCanywhere.
Anyone throw any light |

Service Pack 2 installs a firewall.
In control panel you can change the Internet Security firewall to open
ports. The easy way to test is simply turn the Firewall completely
off. Then see if PCA works. |

SP2 adds in a firewall. If you already have a firewall installed that
is SP2 aware, then you probably won't need to make any changes.
From a Symantec support note, if you have version 10.5 or newer, it
will update the firewall settings as needed if you log on as an
Administrator, start pcAnywhere, and answer a few prompts.
Otherwise, here are a few articles on configuring the firewall with
PCAnywhwere:

No. SP2 starts the packet filter that already was installed since RTM.
