Hi there,

we have about 70 VLANs in our network. The vtp domain consists of two
switches that are vtp server, vtp pruning is enabled and v2 is used.
Most of the other switches are running in vtp client mode, but we have
also got some older 2950s that are only capable of running a maximum of
64 VLANs.

If we try to put these switches in client mode, the VLAN manager
automatically switches the mode from client to transparent:

----------
%SW_VLAN-6-VTP_MODE_CHANGE: VLAN manager changing device mode from
CLIENT to TRANSPARENT.
----------

Is there any possibility to run these devices in vtp client mode or is
this only possible if we create a separate vtp domain for our older
switches that can only support a limited number of VLANs?
We don't really need every VLAN there, but it would be nice if the
switches would automatically adapt if there are e.g. changes in vlan names.

Thanks in advance,
Martin

Thank you Martin,

I already tried that. The switch with which I'm currently trying to
solve that problem has had nothing in bootflash except the IOS image.

Best regards,
Martin
