I am connected but can't chat, whiteboard

Postby John Dalberg » Fri Dec 02, 2005 1:28 am

Hello

I can connect to my friend's netmeeting fine and we can chat if I am the
one claling him. However if he connects to me, we connect and I see his
name but we can't chat, whiteboard or do anything. I think it says 'not in
a call' or inactive.

My router (Linksys wrt54g) has all ports (1-65535) opened with both udp,
tcp. I don't have a firewall running. I am using Windows XP pro.

I can't think of any more ideas. Any suggestions?

The implication would be that the audio/video part(H.323) of the call is
connected but not the data part(T.120).

I am not exactly sure what you are saying here. If by "opening" the ports
you are saying you forward all ports, then try using the dmz feature of
your router -- instead of "opening" all ports.

What port is the data part using? Whatever it is, all the ports are open so
I don't know why the data part is not passing through if that's the
problem.

Yes I am forwarding all the ports.

TCP 1503 is the T.120 data port.

I am not sure why your strategy doesn't work in your situation either but
I suggest using the dmz instead -- it does what you want but does it
correctly and is the strategy that works for all situations that I am aware
of (and is the working stategey that others use). Forwarding all ports
unconditionally is just not the right thing to do in my mind -- logically
it would turn your gateway into a one client device -- essentially a
bridge.
