ive used netmeeting before with my girlfriend before, with video. it works
fine many times in a row. then sometimes we are not able to connect for 1-2
days. if we do connect it is without video/audio. she can call me and we'll
connect half the time, and when it connects neither of us gets video/audio.
but it hardly ever works if i call her. it usually returns to normal after a
day or 2. but it is frustrating that it wont work for no apparent reason
some days. right now we cant see/ hear each other on NM. can anyone tell me
whats going on?

How are you "connecting" -- what is the process of calling you use? These
calls are to/from the same locations ( from a network pov)?

There is no logical reason why ability to connect should change from time to
time other than network busyiness ( even that should not be a huge issue) or
not calling the correct IP address.

we are always at the same locations, my school apartment/her school

we dial each other's IPs. if me calling doesnt work then she calls my
IP. sometimes it works perfectly. sometimes not at all. sometimes we
dont even connect or dont receive the call.
i am confused as to why it does this. youre right, there should be no
reason, but apparently somethings causing this.

No routers at either end I assume?

To connect the call you must determine the IP to call just before the call
( using the help about in NetMeeting if no routers are involved) -- IPs will
change from time to time ( or on every connection) depending on the ISP
involved.

How and when do you determine the Ip address to call?

Well they are when it connects. The question is are they correct when the
call fails?

the IPs stay the same. i check mine by going to my router settings. and
thats what i told her to do.

And you check it every time just before the call?

it worked the first time we tried it yesterday.
failed the 2nd and 3rd reconnects. and worked again the 4th time. all within
an hour!

If :
1)the public IP that you are calling is known correct,
2)the forwarding IP is known correct ( I assume you forward or assign a
dmz?),
3)the firewall configuration on the target machine is correct and
4) NetMeeting is running on the target machine to receive the call

other than some unknown internet connectivity issue I don't know what the
problem might be.

Can you ping the to be called IP when the call fails?
