Hi all,

I embedded the NM user interface into a website & e-mail using the object
HTML tag. Given identical settings with internet options, NM options and
settings for network, router and firewall it all works perfectly with WinXP
SP2 and Win2k SP4. Doesn't so with WinME, though.

Under WinME the user interface simply does not show on the page or e-mail.
However, as soon as I start conf.exe I just have to reload the page to make
the interface show. All features work. I may even shut down the NM
application again before reloading the page. NM seems to need just the
initialization through the system.

Apparently, the behaviour is neither a security nor network issue. ActiveX
is enabled. Network, router and firewall are configured for NetMeeting.
Browser used is IE6 SP1.

Any suggestions appreciated.
TIA,

Stefan Renzke

I am having a tough time imagining what you are saying -- do you have an
internet facing webpage that exhibits the problem?

Does http://www.meetingbywire.com/V3ContactCenter.htm exhibit a similar
symptom with WinMe?

Sorry, it's not online, yet.

Yes, it does. When viewing your site from my PC running WinME I see three
placeholders with little red crosses indicating there is something missing
on the page. The buttons below the 'data only' sample do not work.

After clicking on the NetMeeting desktop icon the application starts. When I
now reload your web page all three samples of the embedded interface appear
on your page and the buttons are working.

There is no problem viewing your page and testing the embedded NetMeeting
from Win2k and WinXP partitions running on the same computer I use with
WinME.

Hmm -- I don't have an ME system to check but I don't recall a specific ME
problem.

What browser version do you have running on ME? What settings ( especially
around loading/using Activex controls) does the browser have?

I am guessing it may be a browser setting issue -- not an ME specific issue.

Anybody else out there have an ME system -- does
http://www.meetingbywire.com/V3ContactCenter.htm appear to work?

My browser is IE6 version 6.0.2800.1106
Updates: SP1; Q834707; Q837009

Throughout the testing process I activated literally everything around
ActiveX and Scripting (don't tell anybody, please :-) ). If I tamper around
with the ActiveX settings I get a prompt that I have to activate ActiveX to
view the content. Same applies when working with Win2k and WinXP. Regarding
internet options and router settings all test systems are configured the
same way.
So the only difference is that the embedded application simply doesn't work
when accessing from WinME.

ACK...I just haven't found the cause, so far.

Finally, I got it fixed. It wasn't an ME issue but not a browser issue,
either. Thomas Bliesener of the German-language NetMeeting Newsgroup gave me
the hint to check if I got the latest NM version installed. I was running NM
3.01 build 3388. After downloading build 3399 and installing it right over
the previous one everything started working fine. All embedded interface
samples now appear and work upon first access.

Thanks again!

Stefan
