My system is running NG R55. Its a combined firewall node and
management/loggin console. Is there a command which will restart the
management/logging whilst leaving the firewall process running?

You could try cprestart. I've noticed it doesn't interrupt traffic flow,
even though it's not supposed to be as thorough as cpstop/cpstart.
