DSL modem - what userid/password? |
|
|
I just switched to dsl this week. The phone company gave me a
Siemens speedstream 4200 dsl modem. I played with it and changed
its ip address and userid/password. Somewhere along the way, a
login screen popped up with the title bar reading "connecting to
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (which is my Internet IP address) and asked for
user ID and password. I tried the default option for the modem
(admin/admin), the combination I gave to the phone company when
signing up the service, the combination I just changed to when
playing with the modem. None was accepted.
Though not being able to log in, I was still able to surf the net.
However, the Usenet news wouldn't work because I wasn't able to
connect to the news server.
What's going on here? I guess I wasn't logged in my ISP's network.
But why was I still able to surf the net? |

First, your post is somewhat OT for this NG. You want
comp.dcom.xdsl
Second, have you tried your e-mail address and password ? That's
what I use with my ISP's DSL service.
