XP SP2 problems? |
|
|
I have successfully had netmeeting running on XP SP1 without any problems in
the past.
Now, I am no longer receiving the other party's video. My received sound is
fine and the other party is receiving both sound and video. While running
Netmeeting, I disable XP's firewall entirely, but could there be a related
bug?
I do have one other possible source for the problem. Since the last
successful conference, I have also updated the firmware of my router. So,
are there any known problems with Netmeeting & SP2 - even with the windows
firewall turned off? If not, I'll have to pursue the router firmware.
Thanks,
Steve |

Audio/video are on the same transport so if you receive audio then the
problem is unlikely to be firewall/transport related.

I think neither the firewall nor the router are implicated. Perhaps video is
just paused or not being sent from the other end?

I suspect your problem(s) are unrelated to SP2.
What ILS servers are you having problems with and what is the nature of the
problems?
When you refer to "received webcam" -- is this in NetMeeting or ...?

The problems are only with SP2 installed. All is right after desistalling it
or before installing it
The first connection on a server ils is very long and windows are frozen.
The connection to one contact is very long and the flow from his webcam is
very very slow.
All the application is very very slow.
On netstat i can't see the open port that I see when SP2 is not installed.
(Firewall activ or not with netmeeting in exeption list too)
Thank's for all

If it is SP2 related ( as your deinstallation seems to indicate) it is not a
general problem (I haven't heard this as a problem from other users and
don't experience similar problems in any tests I have performed with SP2).

What ILS server(s) are your using and what "connection" are you referring

I have heard that there are some speed problems with Dell Inspiron laptops
and SP2. What kind of computer are you using? Are you sure you don't have
some sort of malware infection at your end?

I am not sure what you are saying here -- for NetMeeting to function it must |
listen on tcp 1503 and/or tcp 1720 and will connect on a number of udp ports
when an audio/video call is underway. This is regardless of whether you are
using XP ( and service pack) or Win9x.
With NM running on SP2 I see it listening on tcp 1503 and 1720 ( the -b
option on SP2 will show you the executable that is running -for NM it is
conf.exe)

Desktop with k7s5a mother board

Sure?? I hope. I have antivirus+ firewall + adware + search and destroy.
Nothing suspect !!

Sorry for my english :
The result of netstat his "different" with sp2 installed or not.
I have screen capture of netstat results without SP2 (actually running
well).
I think that netmeeting is modified with sp2 installed. (French version)
For exemple a netmeeting menu named "historique" is renamed "journal" after
sp2 install.
Thank's for all. Michel

I don't have any basis for comparison in speed but that ILS server seems to
operate at a normal speed from what I can see.

Well nestat itself has been changed as I indicated -- I don't see any
difference in intepreted results though.

Yes NetMeeting appears to be different at least the version tagging is 3.01
(5.1.2600.2180) is what appears in English SP2. I don't see any difference
in function/operation though.

Yes XP2 shuts down NM TCP listening ports 1503/1720

Try this...This seems to work...
-Start / Run / firewall.cpl / OK.
-Select the Exceptions tab.
-Press Add Program.
-Press Browse.
-Locate the %ProgramFiles%\NetMeedting folder, select conf.exe, press Open and OK.
-Verify that the conf.exe box is checked.
-Press Browse.
-Locate the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder, select Mnmsrvc.exe, press Open and OK.
-Verify that the Mnmsrvc.exe box is checked.
-Press OK.

Is this somehow NetMeeting related? You might get a better answer asking in
another forum ( perhaps one XP related)
| Quote: | The computer is booting up properly, but the

Do you see anything during the reboot?
Usually the bios identifies itself- do you see that?
Are you sure it is not a physical problem (monitor disconnected?)?
Can you boot into safe mode and see anything?

How do you know it is booting properly?
