we
use to send messages to pagers. The pages are sent through a paging
application. Here is the part that is driving me nuts. The system will
work
fine for weeks and stop. Powering the modem off and back on is the only
way
to get a page to be sent one it stops. We have replaced modems (with same
model), checked phone lines etc with no problems found. This happens
periodically. Could be 2 weeks could be 2 days. I have included a log
file
from the software that communicates with the modem. From what I can tell
it
looks like maybe the carrier was not found.

Maybe you could try a different model. Also, how clean is the electrical
power in your area? Is the system on an uninterruptible power supply? I'm
thinking a low line voltage might confuse the system. Since it's external,
it won't have all the clever power supply filtering and monitoring built
into a modern computer.
And what software are you using to mange it? Does it carefully reset the
modem with an "at&f" to reset it from scratch, or does it rely on the
pre-existing state? A lot of cheap, sloppy modem software does that. The
HylaFAX and I believe mgetty software in the Linux world do a very thorough
job of completely resetting the modem to a known state before releasing it
for other service after a call. |
