NetMeeting Through VPN |
|
|
Hi,
I'm working with an SSL VPN product, we re supporting
dynamic ports (TCP and UDP).
Let me explain our scenario,we have one netmeeting machine
inside the private network and i'm dialing it from an
internet cafe through our VPN, i can send video from cafe
and the inside private network it is getting, but from
private network when we try to send the video, incoming
video stop coming(video from cafe).
But my recieve menu (at cafe machine is enabled). But no
video.
Our VPn product won't accept inbound connections,so is
there any way to enable both way video
Please help me
regards,
Ajith. |

I am not sure what that means. Inbound from where? I thought you said you
were connecting from an internet cafe - isn't that "inbound"

Logically if the VPN is transparent you should be effectively on the LAN
when connected via VPN.
What operating system is on the inside machine? Can the machine inside
connect with other machines on the LAN and transmit video two ways?

Hi Brian ,
thank you for the reply.let me answer your queries.
Q) I am not sure what that means. Inbound from where? I
thought you said you "were connecting from an internet
cafe - isn't that "inbound".
A) Say,IP address of the machine where I'm trying to call
from café is "10.10.8.101". So my VPN client will tunnel
all packet to "10.10.8.101" to my VPN server.
What I meant by "inbound" , if the machine inside the
private network try to connect to my café machine, that
won't work.Because my VPN client only tunnel out going
connection from the café machine. That means
if "10.10.8.101" try to connect to the café machine it
will fail.
Q) Logically if the VPN is transparent you should be
effectively on the LAN
when connected via VPN.
A) As far as I know, a machine sitting inside the private
network cannot connect to a VPN client (machine at café),
because VPN clients routes only "out going connections".
That means if the netmeeting software running
at "10.10.8.101" machine try to connect to the machine at
the café will fail.
Q) What operating system is on the inside machine? Can the
machine inside
connect with other machines on the LAN and transmit video
two ways?
A) the machine inside the private netwok, ie "10.10.8.101"
is Windows 2000. It can do netmeeting with other machines
in the netwok, including video conferencing.
My Problem is that , I can send video from café machine
to "10.10.8.101", but cannot receive video
from "10.10.8.101" m/c

Ajith

I don't know -- the VPN may be the problem ( though as I said generally a
VPN puts the outside machine effectively on the inside network with no
further restrictions).
To rule out the machines themselves I would try to test wtih both on the
same network ( without the VPN in the mix).
If the VPN is the problem all I can suggest is to contact the supplier of
the VPN.

The café LAN is the problem. There is no VPN to the café network, so your
VPN client can only see the public WAN IP address of the café network, not
the internal network addresses. I am not sure how to work through that
problem without VPN tunneling for the café connection; and I don't think you
want to do that, because that would give every node of the café network
access to your internal network at the other end. Giving the café network
VPN access to your private network effectively negates the value of VPN as
far as any of the other café users are concerned.
