not able to accept calls |
|
|
Hi all,
I've been using netmeeting on my win2k for months... using
firewall version 4.5. Then I upgraded it to 5, and it seem
to hang my pc. And netmeeting can't seem to work anymore.
So I decided to reformat my pc. After reformating, I still
can't netmeet. Shutdown firewall and it does not help
still.I'm using a domain name. but tried it and direct IP
address. Both don;t help.
any advice? |

What is "firewall 4.5" or 5 for that matter -- who makes this product? Is
this software that runs on your PC or ? Have you tried to contact the
supplier?

Why not ? How are you attempting to "netmeet" ? what happens?

I think you will have to fill in some details to give somebody a chance to
help.

Hi

this software that runs on your PC or ? Have you tried to contact the
supplier?
I'm using Zonealarm 4.5 version... the minor versions are not mentioned. I did not contact the manufacturer as I had no problems with it beforehand.
- Why not ? How are you attempting to "netmeet" ? what happens?
I use Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS). When I connect using a domain name, luvktv.homeftp.net, it'll say "not able to accept./.." after a while. I tried shutting down my firewall. But i think it'll respond even faster that it's not accepting calls. I also tried my own IP address.
Hopefully, I can get some advice on this...

I am not a ZA user at this point but I would remove NetMeeting from the list
of programs and allow it relearn NetMeeting requirements ( full server
rights are required) to see if that helps.
It might also help to delete the whole program data base and allow
reconfiguring of all programs. Previous versions of ZA have had problems
corrupting the program data base -- I am not sure if that is a current
problem or not.

Are you sure you have the correct IP ? This is the same IP that you
determine in the help about of NetMeeting?
So just to confirm my understanding:
You are attempting to connect to a remote Win2000 system that is runnning
NetMeeting in RDS mode and has ZA alarm running ( hopefully with NetMeeting
RDS allow full server rights). This Win2000 system is at luvktv.homeftp.net
(210.24.205.38) and that is the IP that shows in the help about of
NetMeeting.

I had removed it previously, when I had problem before and after reformatting, I guess. And it did request for permission again. I granted it, but nothing happened at all. That was what puzzled me totally.Later, the same error about not acepting calls came back.

Yes, I tried to ftp to this domain name, and it works. netmeeting shows the internal IP. I even tried my WAN IP (which the domain name is pointing to) and it the same error.

Yes, you've got it! but that's not the IP shown in netmeeting.
Meanwhile, I tried MSN, and was using netmeeting somehow. Then permission came again ,asking for netmeeting session. Both for normal ntmeeting session, and RDS session. I granted them. I guess I'll test it again in time to come.

That should guarantee that you have a new database.

So you are behind a NAT -- I presume then that the router was configured to
forward the outside incoming messages to the inside computer somehow -- I
would check to see that that configuration is still correct. I
| Quote: | Yes, you've got it! but that's not the IP shown in netmeeting.
|
That would imply as I indicated above that the target computer is behind a
NAT -- and special configuration would be needed at the NAT to forward
packets.
| Quote: | Meanwhile, I tried MSN, and was using netmeeting somehow. Then permission

|
Either
1) you are calling the incorrect outside IP
2) the router is not forwarding to the correct inside IP
3) ZA is blocking the incoming call on the target PC
It still is not obvious which, but the fact the you FTP still seems
forwarded to the same IP and that you were reasked for NM permission would
point to ZA locally as the culprit.
