Firewall problem ? |
|
|
Hi all,
I need to use Netmeeting.
My Router ADSL NAT Netmeeting ports (389, 522, 1503, 1720, 1731) to Private
Netword 10.50.X.X
where my Firewall is. The firewall NAT the same ports to PC 10.100.0.72, on
an other private network, where my PC is listening for calls.
Who tries to call me receive the message :
"The person you called is not able to accept NetMeeting calls."
I seem to be unable to receive (and accept) incoming call.
Do you know what can be my problem?
Maybe my pc must be under subnet class 10.50.X.X ?
Maybe not all the necessary ports are in NAT ?
What else ?
Thanks so much for any help.

Generally forwarding ports is not adequate( NetMeeting uses a random set of
udp ports as well) -- use of the dmz feature is necessary for full
audio/video function.
However the ports you have forwarded should be adequate to establish a data
call.
How are you making the call in this case ( the only way that will work is if
you make a call directly to the wan IP of the router used by the person you
want to call. Is that what you are doing?

Brian,
thanks for your answer.
I'm trying to do that:
A person from USA is trying to "NetMeet" me. From his network he send me a
call to the public IP of my router.
My router does the NAT to internal subnet 10.50.X.X where the firewall is;
it also NAT to 10.100.X.X where my PC is. Nothing happen.
Maybe, too many hops ? My Firewall is enabled just to open TCP port (not
still UDP port configured).
I know NM use also dynamic ports (TCP/UDP) that seem to be between 1024 and
1064, but I haven't opened them.
Marco.

So there are two NATs involved the router and the firewall? In that case
both NATs would need to be set up to forward ( if you just want a data call
forwarding tcp 1503 should be all that is required) or use a dmz type
feature.

Well as I said if you just try tcp 1503 that should determine if the
forwarding sequence works. Depending on the devices involved it should be
possible(but probably not desirable) to have the firewall in the dmz of the
router and a similar setup for the firewall.

Actually NM can use dynamic ports in the 1024 to 65535 range so just
"opening" or forwarding the potential udp ports is not usually feasible
