Netmeeting (XP Pro) hangs |
|
|
For some time I've been having trouble with Netmeeting on XP Pro. I
can connect to someone else through an ILS server, but if someone
rings me, the moment my computer starts to connect, CONF.EXE suddenly
uses up 100% of available CPU and almost 100% of available RAM. The
computer is clearly trying to do something as the HDD light is going
like the clappers and you can hear the HDD spinning.
Bizarrely, if I manager to get the chat window open, that works fine
(if a little slowly) while the main window with the video is frozen.
I have tried to wait it out but gave up after 10 minutes and shut the
program through Task Manager.
I even upgraded to Athlon XP 2400 with 768MB RAM thinking is was my
excessively low spec, but it made no difference. I've also removed and
reinstalled NM but no change.
Hope someone knows what's up...
Thanks

Does your "for some time" characterization imply that at one time you had no
problem with NetMeeting calls on this system?

I presume you are referring to following the instructions at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q267958
when you say you removed and reinstalled? Or..?
I presume you have successfully run the audio tuning wizard? Can you preview
video in NetMeeeting at your end when not in call?
What happens when you participate in a data only call ( a "secure" call
would be data only).

Very true. I can't unfortunately identify the time that is stopped working
properly.

Actually, no. I remember I did find this but wasn't sure it would work on
XP, so I did a Google search and found:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
C:\WINDOWS\inf\msnetmtg.inf,NetMtg.Remove
Is this not adequate?

Yes, and yes :-)

Exactly the same thing - NM suddenly decides to use every available
resource!
Thanks

Probably the key unfortunately.

I don't know -- that accounts for the uninstall -- how about the reinstall?
How did you perform that step?

Simply ran CONF.EXE...
Could it be to do with the camera? Sony Handycam using USB.
Thanks
