I have windows XP and currently the netmeeting's video driver is missing
when I checked options on VIDEO.. all grayed out..no way to reinstall a
video driver.
I had at microsoft site for netmeeting download and it does not have it.
How come?
How can I put it to work again? I did conf.exe and it appeared not to exist

The " video driver" is not part of NetMeeting -- it would be part of your
camera software installation. Do you have a camera? Does it have a VFW
capture interface?
Some cameras/capture devices do not have the old style capture interface
required by NetMeeting.

NetMeeting is preinstalled on XP and part of the protected operating system.
As such it cannot be deleted, overwritten or installed over.

I am not sure what you are saying here -- what appeared not too exist in all
directories? What directories are you referring to?

What camera are you using ? Netmeeting requires VFW style devices,
that is the camera drivers must support video for windows or a WDM to
VFW wrapper (my intel CS430 has one of those so it works fine).
Increasingly, suppliers are not providing anything other than WDM
drivers so netmeeting is becoming marginalised.

I have logitech 4000 PRO camera.
Do I have to install its CD?
I was looking for conf.exe in every directory that is available on XP and
found none. But I can still open netmeeting. It is located in C:\Program
Files\NetMeeting\conf.exe, but when I click search for conf.exe at c:\ root.
It never located that conf.exe.
But I can open conf.exe, but the Video in OPTIONS is grayed out. Looks like
I need to install Logitech CD since the camera is plugged into usb port.

Logitech 4000 PRO QUICKCAM. It looks like I need to install its CD. The VFW
style driver you said is required by NM is not possible because VIDEO
OPTIONS is grayed out. I dont know how to install it as it is now.
But Brian and your comments hints that I need to install Logitech software
from CD. It may be the solution.
Another question: you and brian and others
Every time I want to use Netmeeting, I have to disable firewall in Control
Panel. How do I override it without disabling it.
I want to leave firewall on while using NM. How do I go around it?

Your search must be faulty.

Yes the capture drivers for the camera are required.

I have installed the drivers several months ago and it appeared to be lost.
So that means reinstallation is required.
Thanks, brian.

Re: Need to reinstall NetMeeting |

Forget about the XP firewall (I@m assuming that's what you're
referring to), it's rubbish. Zone alarm now works for netmeeting, try
www.zonelabs.com and get the free version until you decide if you need
the pro version.
Zone alarm will ask you if you want netmeeting (and a lot of other
programs) to both access the internet and act as a server - in the
case of netmeeting you want to say yes to both, most other programs
say no to server. Make sure to let it pre-configure access permissions
for common services d you should be secure and able to use your
computer fully.
Cheers - Neil

Neil,
I have already installed ZoneAlert on your recommendation
I need to make replies for any program trying to access to my pc via
internet. It requires replies via clicks to permit them.
It is a bit slower, but much better for security protection.
Thanks, Neil for the recommendation.
I now see that XP firewall is rubbish, because whether on or off the results
were always the same.
Anyway, ZoneAlert is now on. alan
