Why is my speed so high? |
|
|
Background:
I was getting speeds in the 40k's, sometimes up to 52, but they
disconnected me all the time, sometimes every 5 minutes. Often it
connected at a reasonable speed by no transmission would take place.
Then the ISP changed phone numbers, and I was getting connections in
the 20's but they never disconnected me. Much better.
Then I changed to a new but generic modem, from an old but maybe a
little less generic modem, and my connection speeds started going up.
30's, 40's, high 40's, 50's.
Question:
In the last 3 days I've been getting some 52000, one 32000, and the
rest has been 54,666. I thought that was impossible!!!
The 200MHz computer itself often seems bogged down with harddrive
wildly flashing, but when I have something to dl, even news messages
or emails, and I look at the input counter, it is indeed going at a
tremendous speed. But I thought 54K was impossible, let alone 54, 666
Strangely, it takes longer to connect than it used to, and they
disconnect me once in a while, on average every 6 hours of connection
time maybe, but not often.
