Net Meeting stops accepting connections |
|
|
I have a Windows box colocated in a data center that is dedicated to
running game servers and VoIP application servers. Running Win2KPro
fully patched, and I am connecting to it via NetMeeting to use the
remote desktop feature and file transfer, only accepting secure calls.
Recently, it stopped accepting NetMeeting connections with the message
"The other party did not accept your call." The game and VoIP servers
still accept client connections, and the box is not rebooting itself.
I am running Black Ice Defender, only allowing connections on the
ports used by NetMeeting, and the Game and VoIP apps.
Any idea why NetMeeting would just stop accepting connections?
Any help is appreciated. |

I have seen similar instances -- with my Win2000 server as well -- I have
never been able to pinpoint the exact cause. Restarting NetMeeting RDS makes
the symptom go away ( but of course if you have no other way to access the
box -- the only way to restart is to reboot).
I run VNC in parallel as a precaution.

Interesting. Do you know if RDS runs as it's own service? I just got
an idea...
For the game server on that box, I use a program that manages
services, it is called firedaemon. This program can be used to
schedule the start, stop, or restart of any windows services. If RDS
runs as its own service, i'm wondering if it would it be a safe
assumption that if I set it up to restart the RDS service daily if
this might be avoided.
Thoughts on if this would work? |

Yes is a service.

You could try that -- it should work and allow minimum outage.
"NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing" is the name of the service
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\mnmsrvc.exe" is the executable.
