Hi,
is netmeeting being phased out ??

if yes , is there is going to be any alternative for netmeeting , for
sharing applications, whiteboards , chat etc.

apart from using messenger.

also, can we customise the messenger or netmeeting, because netmeeting SDK
is now not available.

is there any other SDK of this sort

NetMeeting is shipped with and functions on all Windows systems up to
Win2003. Microsoft has announced its retirement though so beyond current
systems it has no projected life.

It hasn't had any development since 1999 so the retirement is not
unexpected.

Apart from messenger there is nothing that I know of. Microsoft has a
research project called ConferenceXP(http://www.conferencexp.net/) that has
similar characteristics but so far it is not destined to be a broad product.
Microsoft is also selling and developing a collaboration service called
LiveMeeting(http://www.livemeeting.com/) that has application
sharing/presentation features.

The direction at this point is by no means clear.

Thanks a lot Brian..
One more thing..
Should i look forward to use Netmeeting SDK to give support for
Collaborative and h.323 applications.
Does it is really reliable to go ahead with this ?

Thanks a lot again with the previous reply.

Tarun

I am not sure how to answer -- the SDK and NetMeeting are "reliable" in the
sense that they are stable and known quantities.

If you were attempting to develop a product or service that beyond medium
term longevity on Windows platforms though you would be at risk as there
will be no NetMeeting on new Microsoft products ( Longhorn -- 2006 or so is
the next projected operating system -- afaik it will not have a NetMeeting)

so what is that microsoft is thinking in terms of giving the collaborative
services?
Microsoft Office Live Meeting ?
Is there an SDK for that or is it again paid service to use .
Or is there a Live Meeting server that can be purchased.

I am really not able to think why microsoft is phasing out such a beautiful
product.
It is really nice.

There are various Microsoft solutions or partial solutions but no real
NetMeeting replacement, The Live Meeting service is one of them. Windows
Messenger and Live Communications server are another. Neither though does
everything that NetMeeting does.

There have been rumblings about a separate Live Meeting server product but
the current product is only a pay per use service.

Don't know the specific thinking behind it-- but the decision was taken
almost 5 years ago from what I can tell.
