netmeeting and msn messenger |
|
|
I have a webcam, an old US Robotics Bigpicture video phone camera (that
required the installation of it's PCI capture card) It always works fine
when I use it to log into netmeeting sites. (I always get a both incoming
and outgoing picture and sound )
However, when I try to use my web-cam while in MSN messenger, I get the
following;
"you cannot change your camera settings because either your camera is not
plugged in to your computer or you are using it in a video conversation or
with another program."
So, at the times I've tried to use my webcam during MSN messenger, I know my
camera is plugged into my computer , I'm not using it in a another video
conversation or with another program (that I know of) as I don't even try to
it turn on until I'm in MSN Messenger.
I guess I'm not sure if the web-cam stays associated with whatever program
it was associated with the last time it was used ( for
netmeeting,bytebeam,etc.)
I always log off after those times that I've
used the web-cam for netmeeting and turn the web-cam off.
Again,I'm just wondering if there's some association with the last program
the web-cam was associated with which is preventing me from having it
available for the times when I'm in MSN messenger and try to use the
web-cam.(as it always works with netmeeting or the other netmeeting type
programs.)
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thank you very much,

I presume you have closed NetMeeting as well? |
I suspect that the message is just misleading. The situation is likely that
your camera and drivers just don't have the support required by Msn
Messenger. I have a number of old devices that are not supported as well
(though an old Winnov camera that I have that didn't work during the beta
now works).
Assuming you have the latest available drivers for your camera you are
probably out of luck trying to use the camera with MS Messenger. |

How do I go about getting the latest downloads of the latest drivers from
3COM( since the webcam was made by US Robotics who was bought by 3COM) Does
anyone know a toll free phone # of 3COM as it's next to impossible to get
online tech support from them for this product though they do have limited
info on it..
Again,any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brent

I looked around -- doesn't look like there are drivers past 2001 or so you
might be out of luck.
It might be easier (and less aggravating) just to buy a cheap usb camera if
you really way Messenger video capability.
I have this one
(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007NIJBC/qid=1127658712/sr=8-11/ref=pd_bbs_11/104-9437365-2109568?v=glance&s=pc&n=507846).
It seems to work fairly well - performs well in low light and generally has
fairly good picture quality. |
