ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!

Windows 2000. SP4.

all updates and security patches.

Windows media player 9

DirectX9b

I have lost my Windows default rendering, can't play a dvd with
powerdvd or MSIDVD.

When I run the DirectX diagnostics it sez netmeeting is running.

Netmeeting is disabled in services.

I have searched the hd and changed every instance of the name of
conf.exe to conf.exe.no.

Where and how is this thing loading???

When I reboot, the o/s makes a directory for netmeeting, but nothing
is in it.

I can't delete it, I get a sharing violation.

Is this problem caused by one of the security updates???

The only thing that will play a dvd is dvdshrink, but I have to use
VMR-9, default windows rendering won't work.

Anybody else have a similar problem.

I attempted to install a "free" video player that never worked, I
removed it but it put in a load of spy crap which I have removed.

I deleted the file and don't remember the name of it. D'0H!!

Help.

Thanks

I have lost my Windows default rendering, can't play a dvd with
powerdvd or MSIDVD.

When I run the DirectX diagnostics it sez netmeeting is running.

Netmeeting is disabled in services.

NetMeeting sets a flag preventing other Directx programs from running.

NetMeeting has two modes of operation -- a service for RDS function( which
you have disabled) and a task that can run in the background waiting for
incoming calls.

It may be that the waiting for call part is running.

Start NetMeeting and unset the automatic startup on reboot, then exit.

Another possibility is that the directx in use flag got left set because
NetMeeting was exited abnormally. In this case starting and exiting
NetMeeting should reset the flag.

I have searched the hd and changed every instance of the name of
conf.exe to conf.exe.no.

Where and how is this thing loading???

Possibly it is not loading but the flag is set from an abnormal exit.

I can't delete it, I get a sharing violation.

Hmm -- there definitely should be something in it. If I remember correctly
it should not be deletable ( nor should the contents) -- at least on XP it
is that way.

Did you delete the contents somehow? How? If there is nothing in it you will
obviously not be able to start and exit NetMeeting.

Is this problem caused by one of the security updates???

I don't think so. Are you sure that you did not do something unusual to
delete NetMeeting?

I'll try that. Need to bring it up in safe mode again to reset all
the files and remove the .no on everything.

I did notice when netmeeting is running, the phone is off the hook, I
haven't been able to get it to hang up.

Another problem to chase down.

Thanks

Thanks, netmeeting is now off.

DVD playback works, default windows rendering works.

Netmeeting is stull AFU, when I attempt to run the options, it locks
up and crashes.

It doesn't like my video card.

I don't use it, just want to get my dvd stuff working again.

Microsoft was worthless, looked all over their support site, nothing.

Thanks...

Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card

It's a AVer Media pci capture card with tunner.
$49.00 at Fry's.

All I use it for is to watch Direct TV on my 21" monitor at work.

When I put it in last year, I remember looking for updated drivers,
finding them and putting them in, but if memory serves me, Microsoft
doesn't support this card for netmeeting.

That doesn't make any since, it's a function of the o/s.

Yep, haven't turned on netmeeting in many months, after I discovered
it doesn't like my video card I kinda gave up.

I'm behind a router on 192.186.x.x

Nobody can connect to me anyway.

I only used it for voip. worked pretty good.

Maybe someday when I have the time, I'll dive into it and try to make
it work again.

Thanks again.

http://www.avermedia-usa.com/support/downloads.shtml -- you might check to
see if there more up to date drivers anyway.

I am not sure I understand your statement here but I guess it doesn't really
matter.

Been there, done that, I have the latest drives installed.

Nothing new.

If the video card works ok fine in the operating system, the
application should use it.

Doesn't make any since that the o/s likes the capture card and the app
(netmeeting) doesn't.

Oh well, someday I may try to make netmeeting work again.

For right now, I got my video playing back.

On ward and up ward,...rip, rip, rip, rip........
