Hello,
On the MS Netmeeting download page is written, the downloadable NM can
work with Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (and other versions). I have W2K
Service Pack 4, but when I download the program and try to install,
then the error message "This version of Netmeeting can not be installed
on this version of windows" appears.

What can I do to install this program?

The reason, I want to install a newer version of netmeeting is, that I
have a USB Webcam with built in microphone from Logitech. They tell me,
that the NM in W2K can not handle USB microphones. :-( Only NM Service
Pack 2 can, but this I can not install on W2K. :-(

The MS NM download page is:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=26c9da7c-f778-4422-a6f4-efb8abba021e&DisplayLang=en

Kind regards,
Johannes

It should be preinstalled -- no downloadable NM program will install and run
on XP or Win2000.

Normally it would exist in Program Files\NetMeeting with the executable as
conf.exe -- I forget what shortcuts are created by default on Win2000 but I
think Accessories -> Communications should have a shortcut.

SP4 of Win2000 has the latest version of NM that will run on Win2000.

Yes, I know it is already installed and I am using it. As described
below, the problem is the support of a USB microphone. I know the
versions with Servicepack 2 for Win98 support USB microphones.
Since on the download page they explicitely state the support of W2k
SP4, I had hoped, that I could use the USB microphone, but
obviously..... :-(

Thanks anyway.

As far as I know there is no "support" for USB microphones in SP2 of
NetMeeting. SP2 is from 1999/2000(pre USB microphones). The version in SP4
of Win2000 is actually a newer version than that.

The problem with USB microphones and NetMeeting ( and some other programs)
is that NetMeeting requires a full sound card interface (which the USB
microphone does not have) to pass the audio tuning test.

Sometimes USB microphones just work anyway ( even though they fail the audio
tuning wizard tests). Have you tried to use it?

Actually, I got an information from Logitech Support Center. But I have
to admit, that I had already forgotten the original statement, because
for sometime I couldn't download Netmeeting because it was not
available. After your answers, I read again the answer from Logitech
and they state: "Unzip the file and run the program conf.exe".
Now I have done this, and now my USB mic works. :-)

Thanks anyway,
Johannes
