I have just purchased new computer with the same ADSL modem and ISP as per
the old unit. I now find that as a default action Netmeeting is assigning
the network card address, IE 169.XXX etc., not my actual Client address as
the Primary Address. Therefore nobody can call me.

Can I manually change the log on IP address that Netmeeting assigns?

Regards,

Paul

NetMeeting uses whatever IP address it can determine locally to register in
the ILS.

Normally though even if you were behind a NAT that would be a 192.168,x,x,
10.x.x.x or 172.16-31.x.x address not one from the 169,154,x,x set ( those
addresses are normally assigned when setting up and adhoc network with no
DHCP server.

Are you saying that this did not happen with a different computer, same
modem and ISP?

If that is true then something in your computer(not NetMeeting) setup must
be different/wrong.

NetMeeting will not let you change the IP address that is registered in the
ILS -- there are some third party ILS registration programs that will let
you use whatever registration address you want.

Thanks for the reply. I can confirm that this was not a problem with the
previous computer and the ISP and ADSL modem is the same.

If it is the new computer should I call Dell?

I doubt Dell will provide much guidance but I guess you could try.

I don't think it a problem with the computer -- your setup is likely the
issue.

Is this an internal dsl modem, or usb or ethernet or ..?

Does this computer have more than one NIC on it?

Normally 169.254.x.x addresses are only assigned when a network device
cannot find an appropiate dhcp server to assign an IP (maybe because the
card is not connected anything?). I can't see where this could be the IP
used for internet access.

This is the IP ( and the only IP) that appears in the help about of
NetMeeting?

The NM Toolboox
http://www.nmtoolbox.com/

I think has that feature. There have been others around as well -- nothing
that immediately comes to mind though.
