Is the interactive whiteboard feature in NetMeeting
available anywhere as a stand alone piece of software? |

Not from Microsoft, Databeam ( purchased by Lotus/IBM a few years ago) did
have a stand alone Whiteboard product based on the T.120 protocol.
I am not not sure what the future of the whiteboard feature is from a
Microsoft pov. They just lost a $60 million patent infringement lawsuit over
it.

I hate to ask you this, but what is the T.120 protocol?

Is the lawsuit the reason for Live Meeting?

I found the answer to T.120 protocol |

Brian,
I found the answer to my question about the T.120 protocol
in Chapter 10 of a manual on the Microsoft site.

There is probably some connection but I don't think the lawsuit is the
primary driving factor.
Live Meeting is collaboration service that is a rebranding of Placewhere --
a company that Microsoft purchased. It is a competitor for Webex ( not the
greatest competitor in my opinion at this point but it is early days).
The various reasons for Microsoft purchasing Placewhere( that I can see:
1) the external server model via http works much better for corporations
with strict firewall restrictions
2) it actually offers some potential at a viable business ( there is revenue
involved)
3) various lawsuits ( there is another NetMeeting related lawsuit pending)
make NetMeeting and its protocols a potentialy future liability.
