My pc has been great for me for several months..Now I am trying to hookup
speakers to the audio connector at the back of the pc tower. All I get is
beeps from NetMEeting Audio Wizard Test indicating audio connections works.
But we cannot hear anything on opposite ends during conversation in
NetMeeting.

I was afraid that I need to buy an audio router.. but I am sure it is not
necessary!

What is wrong!!!

There should be more than "beeps" -- there should be an undulating "drum"
sound produced in a loop. Is that what you mean when you say "beeps"?

Neither end has audio or video?
Are either of you behind a router or firewall of some kind?
What operating system is at either end?
How are both ends connected to the internet ? ( dial up , cable, dsl or
....?)
A "secure" call would be data only -- no audio or video either way -- is it
possible a secure call is being made?
Are either of you on a corporate network where audio/video could be limited
by policy?

I am not even sure what an "audio router" in this context is so my guess is
that it is not necessary.

Darn it..the reply to you this morning was never posted.

In this posting, I said I need to tell you that I am deaf.
I was not able to hear the sounds, but with the aid of hearing aid, I was
able to hear sounds only. (I am not able to distinct the sounds. The hearing
people on the other end during Internet NetMeeting said they could not hear
me and also so did I.
I know that the sounds did emit (not Beeps) during Audio Wizard tests. I was
able to hear these undulating "drum" sounds described by you. You describe
them better.

I still wonder why because if I dont plug into the right hole, I would not
hear those "drum" sounds. So I know it is plugged correctly, because I
could hear those "drum" sounds. But still my friends still could not hear
me. I use Logitech camera, too for video. Video works well, but not the
sounds.

Hope it will post this time.

When your partner runs the audio tuning wizard presumably they hear the
sounds as well --- indicating that their end can play the sound?

Does your mic appear to work in the audio tuning wizard?

Does your mic meter show any movement when in a call and you speak into the
mic?

I guess it is possible your microphone is not set to 'record' sounds -
the way to find oout is to click on the volume control on your PC (or
go to Start->Programs->Entertainment->Volume control) and then select
Options->Properties

Usually people only see the tabs for playback, but by doing this you
can see a selection to 'Adjust volume for Playback / Recording'

If you then select recording, you see different sliders, which allow
you to set the volume level of sounds captured by your microphone.
Also on this tab, you can see if the Microphone is 'Muted' or not,
that is, it wil pick up no sounds even when switched on.

Make sure the volume level of the microphone is max initially, and
that the microphone control is not in 'mute' mode. If you then run the
sounds wizard on netmeeting, you should see the green bar rise & fall
when you speak, which indicates netmeeting is receiving sound input.

BTW - you mentioned you were partly deaf, this server might be of
interest : ils.csdvrs.com .... go to Call-> Directory and punch this
into the dropdown box at the top - it will connect you to the video
relay service ILS server, which is a deaf specific group, perhaps some
people there might have some helpful advice for setting up netmeeting.

You will probably need to go to netmeeting->options too, and check
'log on to directory server' which will list your name on the server -
otherwise, you will not be listed and peopl emight wonder wherre your
call came in from ;-0

Cheers - Neil.

I need to know first if I do have microphone or not. I thought I already
have one built in logitech camera. If it does not work that way, I will try
to purchase a microphone. Strange it may seem, because I bought Dell
Package, the pc came with speakers..Why not microphone.

Still desperate and confused..but it looks somebody in your group will
figure it out for me!

Re: ReLay Services.. I know all about it! thanks...But they are somewhat at
a loss. Hope you dont mind working it out with me.

There have been many reports of the built in Logitech microphones not
working with NetMeeting so my guess is that you need a separate microphone
that plugs into your sound card.

At a minimum you should make sure that that you will need to make sure that
the correct sound input device is selected in the audio tuning wizard ( you
should have two listed I would guess).

Generally any microphone that is designed for a computer sound card input
should work. It should be something that has some sort of base or hands free
system ( most would) as you need your hands to type. I wouldn't recommend
buying an expensive mic unless you have some other use for it ( something
under $10 is the right range).

I actually use a headset with a boom mic attached.

Papy,

There are no checks next to" incoming secure calls and outgoing secure
calls. Therefore, it is welcome to unsecured public audio calls.

I am using it at home network..not corporate at all.
Strange enough, I can hear sounds from a hearing friend.
But he cannot hear me.

No Video Relay Services cannot hear me and so do I. My sound drivers are
soundMAX digital audio (Dell audio drivers).
They were configured in Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Voice Tab
folder to SoundMAX digital audio from Logitech 4000. I am still using
Logitech 4000 videocam.

No Video Relays are able to hear my sounds..but I guarantee that they dont
use NetMeeting. They write their own video programs.
I use NetMeeting.
But at least I could hear sounds from a friend. It is great!
But he cannot hear my sound. :). It may have something to do with the
incompatibility between their and my audio/sound/voice drivers...prehaps
compression drivers?

Perhaps somebody here may give me more tips, but dont be too concerned.
Thanks.
