NetMeeting Directory/Connection Problems |
|
|
I'm running WXP Pro and the current release of NetMeeting. I have had
connections from an outside vendor that worked fine, but I cannot
connect to a friend who is running NM under W2K Pro. We can IM chat with
no problem, but not NM. It keeps giving error messages of not logging on
to a server, user not found, etc. What am I missing? We can ping each other. |

If you have the "automatic login to server on startup" set and your chosen
server is the "Microsoft Internet Directory" you will get a server not found
error on every startup as the server is no longer in service. Uncheck the
feature on the tools options general tab.

User not found message -- not sure about that -- when does this message
appear?
How are you trying to initiate the call?

Re: NetMeeting Directory/Connection Problems |

Thanks
Auto login is now not set.
When I start a new call from the Call New Call drop down menu using the
email address I get an error "NetMeeting could not find the name of the
person you are trying to call on the directory server. Check ---or
change the address type in the using box." Where is the "using box"?
Address type is confusing too. I have Windows Address book for the
server. I've tried MS ID too. The name and email are in the Windows
Address Book.
Under the Find Someone, I have Windows address book showing. Ive tried
all options. I cannot log onto the it. I get an error "There was a
problem connecting to the directory server" "You may not be connected to
the network {wrong, I am], or the server may be busy {? it is on my PC,
how can it be busy?] "To change your server in NetMeeting, click Tools,
Options and select General tab., which I have done.
I'm not sure what should be entered for the server, if anything. I
understood [?] that a directory server was not needed. ?? I do not get
any names showing in the listing.
Thanks
Bob

One more thing, I just noticed in Windows Messenger that I am not signed
in to all services. When I click on it I get an error that "Signing in
to Communications Service failed because the service is temporarilty
unavailable. Please try again later." I used my sign in of
coescove@hotmail.com. All services have been activated in the Control
Panel Administration.

You cannot call from NetMeeitng using the email address as the calling
address. http://www.meetingbywire.com/NetMeeting101.htm discusses calling
strategies.

What you are trying to do is not generally possible.

Have a look at the url I provided. Essentially to make the call you must
call via the ILS server that your target has logged into ( there are a
number of 3rd party servers out there) or you must call using the target's
IP address.
