I have an auto-sensing (not auto-negotiation) card that thinks its connected
to a 10 mbps switch port. The switch port is actually configured for a fixed
speed of 100 mbps. When I disabled auto-mdix on the port the card suddenly
started linking at 100 mbps.

I was told that the auto-mdix used FLPs. This I imagine was confusing my
auto-sensing card (please don't tell me to get a newer card, for various
reasons that is not an option).

My question is how does auto-mdix actually work?
