Remote Desktop Beginnings

Postby Guest » Fri Aug 19, 2005 10:40 am

It seems that the Remote Desktop feature in Windows XP Professional was
ported from the older NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing feature...

That means the following cleint operating systems have access to the
"exclusive" feature from Windows XP Professional...

- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows Millenium Edition
- Windows 2000 Professional

Quite impressive that a 10 year-old operating system includes a
cutting-edge network feature...

Actually, Nicholas, the Remote Desktop Connection feature in XP allows those
client operating systems to remotely connect to the XP desktop (IF they have
Windows Messenger installed and Remote Desktop Connection is enabled on the
XP machine!), but the XP machine cannot take control of the other desktops.
Netmeeting is needed if you want to connect say Win2K and Win2K.
