Good day,
I currently use a GSM900 modem to make/receive data calls to/from a system
with an ISDN2 (BRI) modem. I'd like to update from GSM to GPRS using the
same high-level protocols and "dial-up". However, I've never done this,
have not used GPRS (other than on my mobile phone to access the internet and
e-mail) and so don't know where to start.
Is this the correct news group to ask?
Can any one help?
Where else should I look?

Chris

Hello Chris,

GPRS is packet-switched and does not ordinarily provide a
means to call a number (ISDN or otherwise). You may be able
to upgrade to high-speed circuit-switched data (HSCSD)
service if you are hoping to speed things up. Check with
your mobile carrier for availability and pricing, but it
seems reasonable to expect to pay the same rate per minute
as you do for voice calls.

I hope that this helps. Let us know how you get on.

- Andy.

Andy,

Thanks. With help from you, and others, I'm gradually getting my head
arround this. Next stop - my air-time provider.

Thanks again

Hi Chris,

Yes, as Andy says, GPRS is packet-switched and same thing would be wit
UMTS.
Their connections are not direct to the remote as in the GSM. HSCSD i
a better option since you can bundle the ISDN channels together...
guess up to 4 so that your connection can go up to 256kbps.

I hope it helps too.

Regards
Federico
